2024 Ally Week Recap Video
NYU Shanghai launched Ally Week as a dedicated time to reflect on the individual and collective injustices shaping our society. Grounded in the values of allyship and solidarity, the program created space for community members to learn from one another and to consider how more inclusive ways of being and belonging could be practiced on campus and beyond.
Held each fall, Ally Week evolved in response to changing global and local contexts. Through conversations, workshops, performances, and arts- and film-based programming, participants were invited to engage with questions of identity, power, and social responsibility. These experiences encouraged deeper understanding of intersectional identities and supported critical reflection on the systems and structures that influence lived experiences.
Student leadership was central to the program. Each year, Ally Week ambassadors were recruited from the LEAD Program and played an active role in shaping, promoting, and facilitating events. The program also collaborated with student leaders who demonstrated a sustained commitment to diversity, equity, and social justice, supporting them in designing and leading their own Ally Week initiatives.
Together, these efforts made Ally Week a meaningful opportunity for collective learning, dialogue, and reflection within the NYU Shanghai community.
