ChengHe Guan is an Assistant Professor of Urban Science and Policy at NYU Shanghai and founding director of Shanghai Key Laboratory of Urban Design and Urban Science. Dr. Guan is also a Global Network Assistant Professor and PhD advisor at NYU Wagner, and a visiting Associate Professor at East China Normal University.  He serves as a research consultant at the Centre on Migration, Policy and Society, University of Oxford. He is also an Associated Senior Researcher at Harvard-China Project on Energy, Economy, and Environment, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Harvard University.

The intellectual agenda of Dr. Guan’s research ties into the current urban challenges and opportunities and leads to a cluster of research themes on Computational Urban Science in Planning (CUSP). His research is organized in three interconnected themes to address the particular needs for CUSP research of the society at large. The first theme is planning for sustainable post-pandemic cities in the framework of digital urban transformation. The second theme is planning for the growth of climate responsive low-carbon cities in the context of GHG mitigation. The third theme is planning for environmentally sensitive urban green infrastructure using social sensing techniques.

Dr. Guan has published over 50 academic papers, more than 40 are in internationally renowned journals indexed in SCI/SSCI including Nature Communications, Cities, Environmental and Planning B: Urban Analytics and City Science, Transportation Research Part D: Transport and Environment, Urban Forestry & Greening. He teaches multiple courses in the field of CUSP such as Urbanization in China, Planning Global Cities, Spatial Dynamics of Urbanization, and Computational Urban Science.
