Coming from a family of musicians, oboist and conductor Yue Cheng has distinguished himself as one of China’s leading musicians. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin (Bachelor’s degree) and the Hartt School of Music (Master’s degree), Mr. Cheng studied with Leonhard Seifert, Richard D. Blair, Humbert Lucarelli, and Jerry Junkin.
Mr. Cheng has performed in the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, the United States, Japan, China, and Brazil. Recent career highlights include giving master classes at West Point Academy and NYU Steinhardt, and appearing as guest performer and conductor with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Hamburg Symphoniker, Tokyo Sinfonia, and the Texas Wind Ensemble alongside two-time Grammy Award winner Hila Plitman.
In 2013, he was invited to serve as a jury panel member for the International Double Reed Society Competition. He currently holds multiple positions as music director of the NYU Shanghai Chamber Orchestra, associate arts professor at NYU Shanghai, and area head of the NYUSH Performing Arts Program.
