On October 8th 2015, NYU Shanghai held a fashion show, highlighting Han Chinese culture. The event, co-sponsored by Pudong’s Wei Fang community and NYU Shanghai’s Youth League, offered an engaging presentation of Han culture through the ages, including classical Han dance, music, calligraphy, and traditional fashion worn throughout the Ming Dynasty period. The audience enjoyed both a beautiful Pipa 琵琶 musical performance as well as a live calligraphy demonstration by Zhong De Yang, calligraphy teacher at Wei Fang Street Community School and member of the National Handwriting Artist Association. He presented to NYU Shanghai the beautifully written words “Tian Xia Yi Jia ” (All under heaven are of one family) as a gift. NYU Shanghai Chinese and international students took part in the event and paraded down the runway, donning traditional Han clothing. It was the perfect opportunity for students and the local community to have a good time together, in keeping with Chinese traditional culture.
