You’ve got the gown, practiced your cap toss and are ready for the big day, but there’s more to graduation week than picking up your diploma.
Whether you are one of our graduating students, family, friend or faculty member, here are the events and activities taking place as we countdown to graduation on May 30.
Pearl Tower Huangpu River Cruise and Graduation Dinner
We invite you and your family to join an optional Graduation Dinner held at the Coca-Cola Restaurant followed by an evening cruise on the Huangpu River, with an entire boat reserved for NYU Shanghai graduates.
Date: Tuesday evening, May 28th
Dinner Location and time: Coca-Cola Restaurant, 5pm
No. 1 Century Avenue, Oriental Pearl Tower, Pudong New Area (near Gate 8 of Oriental Pearl Tower)
Please note: Dinner will be served buffet-style and will start promptly at 5pm. You are welcome to come any time after 5. We recommend having dinner early, as the cruise will depart promptly at 7:25pm. The restaurant to the boat wharf is about a 10 minute walk.
Cruise Location and time: 2852, Bin Jiang Da Dao, 7:30pm - 8:30pm
Please note: The boat will depart at 7:25, and will not include light refreshments. Guests will be able to purchase drinks onboard.

Deans’ Morning Tea
The Division Deans’ of Arts and Sciences, Business, and Computer Science & Engineering, along with NYU Shanghai’s faculty, cordially invite graduating students and families to join to a morning tea in celebration of the achievements of the graduating Class of 2019.

“Made in Shanghai” Graduation Performance and Lighting of The Pearl Tower
Join the Class of 2019 at the Oriental Pearl Tower for an evening of performances by members of the senior class and NYU Shanghai Alumni. The event will culminate in the lighting of the Pearl Tower violet in honor of NYU Shanghai’s newest graduates following a longstanding NYU tradition of lighting the Empire State Building in New York violet for graduation.
Due to limited space, the central plaza area is reserved for graduating students and their families (each senior will get a ticket + 2 guest tickets), however views from the skybridge and outer areas of the plaza are open to the public. Note that this is a standing room only event.
The Shanghai Oriental Pearl Tower will be lit in the University’s colors for the evenings of Wednesday, May 29 and Thursday, May 30, from 7pm to 10pm. Catch the best views from the Pearl Tower skybridge or from across the river on the Bund.

2019 Commencement Ceremony
NYU Shanghai will hold its 2019 Commencement Exercises at the Shanghai Oriental Arts Center. All graduates will walk across the commencement stage and receive their diplomas from the Chancellor. It will be a once-in-a-lifetime event in the lives of graduates and parents alike – an experience not to be missed.
Please note that the ceremony is a ticketed event with assigned seating, so make sure you have your tickets!
1:20 pm - doors open at Shanghai Oriental Arts Center
1:50 pm - doors close at Shanghai Oriental Arts Center
2 pm - Ceremony starts
3:30 pm - Presentation of candidates for degree
4:30 pm - Ceremony ends

Photo Time
From 5pm after the commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 30, graduates and their families are invited to the academic building to mingle over refreshments and photos. The event is also open to the NYU Shanghai community and is an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to celebrate together with the graduating class.
Please note that access to the Academic Building will be restricted during this time to pass holders only. All guests will need to show a Family Pass.
