2025-2026 Financial Aid Filing Requirements for Returning NYU Shanghai Students
Please review this information to be sure that you do not miss out on any financial aid opportunities.
Renewing Institutional Aid (non Chinese nationals)
No additional CSS Profile is required to renew your NYUSH grant aid as NYUSH does not re-evaluate institutional aid in subsequent years. You will continue to receive the same amount of NYU Shanghai grant aid that you received your first year, as long as you are a full-time student (enrolled in 12 credits or more per semester). If you enroll in 6-11 credits per semester, your scholarship and/or grant will be prorated. If you enroll in 5 credits or fewer per semester, your scholarship and/or grant will be canceled.
U.S. Citizens or Official Permanent Residents
Returning undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or eligible non-citizens must file the FAFSA using NYU's school code (002785) in order to renew their federal financial aid each year.
The 2025-2026 FAFSA is available here.
The 2025-2026 FAFSA will become available by October 2025. Information regarding FAFSA Simplification can be found here.
In order to qualify for U.S. federal financial aid, you must meet the requirements below:
- You are enrolled at least half time (enroll in 6 credits or more per semester).
- You are meeting the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards (for U.S. federal aid eligibility).
More information about the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards can be found on the NYU’s Financial Aid website.
Supporting Financial Documentation
You do not need to submit any financial documents to our office at this time. If we need documentation to verify the information reported on your applications, we will email you that request directly to your NYU email address as well as list the requirements on your To Do List (via NYU Albert).
CSS Profile Verification information can be found here.
FAFSA Verification information can be found here.
Study Away
The NYU tuition and NYUSH Student health insurance charges will be the same as if you were studying in Shanghai when you enroll at an NYU global site for your study away semester.
Your institutional aid (if you are eligible) will apply towards your billed charges the same way as if you were studying in Shanghai. Students are responsible for any charges not covered with their financial aid.
It is important to note that some of the costs, while studying away, may be more than when you are studying in Shanghai. For example, your NYU housing/food and/or travel costs may differ depending on your study away location. For planning purposes we recommend that you review the Study Away Costs Estimates for each NYU global site from the NYU Office of Global Programs as well as the NYU Shanghai Study Away Out of Shanghai site, here. Please speak with your academic advisor to determine which study away site works best with your degree requirements.
Students looking for external funding resources can consider private (nonfederal) alternative student loan options. For more information on private loans, click here. U.S. federal aid eligible students studying away at a site that has a higher cost of attendance than NYU Shanghai can contact our office about additional US federal loans.
New York University does not prefer, recommend, promote, or endorse any particular lender, and students should research their options accordingly. Of course, you are not required to borrow from any of the lenders listed and there is no penalty for selecting a different lender if you prefer.
