The academic scholarship you received from NYU Shanghai will remain the same for the 8 semesters you study with NYU no matter where you study. Need based financial aid is reviewed each year by the financial aid office and if you qualify, additional aid may be provided based on the cost of attendance for the location you are studying.

Yes, if you use online banking for your Chinese bank account, you need to have your u-key with you in order to process payment as needed.
- Will the exchange rate be changed each Academic Year?
For university’s operational purpose, a constant exchange rate (university budget rate) is reviewed at a predetermined interval each academic year.
- Where is the exchange rate used?
It is used on all bills through out the academic year for cost recovery purpose.

- What are the options for health insurance?
New York University requires that students studying abroad as part of their educational program be covered under the NYU-sponsored health insurance plan administered by GeoBlue. Students who maintain other insurance coverage that meets ALL of the University’s requirements, may apply to waive the NYU-Shanghai sponsored GeoBlue Plan. If a student’s tuition or fees will be paid by a third-party sponsor (note: parents or relatives do not qualify as third parties), they must submit an official payment authorization letter from the sponsoring organization or company. This letter must be on the sponsor's official letterhead and submitted before the payment due date.
All authorization letters will be reviewed and must include the following details:
1. The student’s full name
2. The student’s ID number
3. The semester(s) or academic year to be covered
4. The maximum amount to be paid, including whether it covers tuition and/or fees
5. The sponsor’s company name, billing address, and contact details (contact person, email, and phone number)
6. Financial guarantee signed by authorized company individual (cannot be signed by the student or family member) - What are your and your sponsor’s responsibilities?
To ensure a smooth third-party billing experience, both you and your sponsor should understand the following key points:
1. No Credit Without Payment: A third-party credit will not be applied to your student account until we receive actual payment from the sponsor.
2. Withdrawal Still Incur Charges: If you withdraw from the University before the end of the semester, your sponsor will still be billed for the related charges. Please review the University’s withdrawal policy for further details.
3. Late Payment Consequences: If the third-party sponsor fails to pay, you will be held responsible for the outstanding balance. In this case, you will receive a notification and a hold will be placed on your account. - I have a ZRG hold or ZBB hold on my account. What does this mean?
ZBB hold means that you have a past-due account balance with the Office of the Bursar. This may impact the following: Ability to register, Transcript requests or Diploma issuance.
ZRG hold means that a full payment for the prior term balance is required before registration can be permitted. If you have recently made a payment, please click on Check Registration Status or Enroll links for your registration eligibility to be re-evaluated. - How do I receive my refund if there is any excess amount in my account?
For compliance purposes, all refunds will be returned to the originating bank account in the original currency that the payer sent to NYU Shanghai which follow Anti-Money Laundering laws each term. Chinese and International (Non-US) students will receive the refund of overpayment by the same method of the original payment to the original payer. US students will receive the refund by setting up an eRefund account for direct deposit to a US checking account in eSuite.

For Chinese National Students and International Students (Non-US Passport Holder), eSuite/ Online banking only accepts Chinese bank account/ bank account opened in mainland China. For detailed instruction, please visit HERE.

- How do I view and print my 1098-T Form?

- What is Estimated Housing Fee and Estimated Book and Course Material Fee shown in my Bursar Account?
Estimated Housing Fee: You will see a charge on your bill for housing at NYU Shanghai or NYU Global, this charge is an estimated amount based on the average amount students pay for housing, it is not reflective of the room type you have been assigned to or what you will end up paying. Once housing assignments are finalized, this charge will be adjusted to reflect your actual housing charge.
Estimated Book and Course Material Fee: This estimated cost will be adjusted based on the requirement of the course materials actually ordered and student account will be either credited or debited with the amount difference, so individual student costs will vary. - How do I review my financial aid information?

- Under the Finances section, click Financial Aid Summary
- I made an online tuition payment through my Chinese bank account. Why is the payment not reflected in my eSuite account when the money has already been deducted from my bank account?
Please remember to complete the payment within 30 minutes and do not close the eSuite webpage before receiving a confirmation letter with the reference number. If your account balance does not reflect the payment made, please contact the Office of the Bursar at shanghai.studentaccounts@nyu.edu and provide the bank remittance copy of the payment with your student ID.
- Do I have to open a Chinese local bank account?
This is not mandatory. However, since you will be a student in Shanghai for several years, we recommend that you open a local bank account to minimize the withdrawal fees you could be assessed by a bank account outside of China.
